Sustainable tourism

The “Eco-Passeurs du Pais – Parlons Patrimoine” network brings together tourism professionals committed in sustainable development. They speak “Patrimony” and make visitors aware of the adoption of environmentally friendly practices during their holidays, in the territory “Vidourle Camargue” where the “Pays de Sommières” is located.

The “Pays de Sommières”  is located in the Vidourle valley, at the crossroads between Nîmes and Montpellier. Vidourle is a coastal river that originates at the foot of the Cévennes region to reach the Mediterranean Sea at the town Grau-du-Roi.

Site Natura 2000, this river has a special biological interest in view of the existence of aquatic and malarial species remarkable and singular compared to other rivers in the region. The downstream part of Vidourle, from Sommières to the Sea, was also chosen as a Site of Community Interest.

Our partners are concerned about the preservation of our environment through their active participation in the territory’s economy and the emphasis on local know-how.

Hosts or leisure providers, they are part of an eco-responsible tourism approach, valuing small simple gestures of everyday life.

Some of them are also part of the “eco-Passeurs du Pais – Parlons Patrimoine” network.

To make the holidays responsible…

There are so many local products to discover. Let’s enjoy a diet from local agriculture to stay healthy and for the benefits on our planet.” Let’s meet the farmers and taste their products. Let’s respect the seasons. Let’s eat products picked at maturity. Less transport and less packaging.

The Gard is one of the favourite destinations of the South with the colourful markets. The opportunity to get to know the producers and fill up on vitamins. A way to promote short circuits (producer to consumer)

For some years now, the municipalities of Sommières and Montpezat have been committed to the “Objectif zéro phyto” (differents levels Objectif Phyto and the label “Terre Saine”).
The aim of this commitment is to reduce pollution from the use of harmful products to protect public health and the environment.

Here, in the “Pays de Sommières”, walk, pedal, sail, fish, trot, enjoy !

Choose green tourism, limit the carbon footprint of your trip, because you can travel by train or bus.
Of course, these modes of travel are slower but also less polluting.A network of more than 200 kilometers of signposted routes. On foot, on horseback or by mountain bike, follow the paths proposed by the Gard or compose your own itineraries. A map-guide is sold in the Tourist Office (€5).
