Itinerary
From the Sommières Tourist Office, take rue Marx Dormoy, then turn right into rue Taillade as far as the entrance to the Espace Lawrence Durrell. Take the staircase on your left that leads to the back of the château, then continue along chemin de Belleau. You will arrive straight at the Villevieille clock gate. Pass through the heart of the village, skirting the remains of the ramparts, then explore its typical narrow streets and other wonders.

WORTH KNOWING
Occupied since prehistoric times, the Villevieille plateau was a strategic site overlooking the Vidourle. From the 2nd century AD, the town was depopulated in favour of Sommières, a thriving commercial crossroads. The population gradually migrated to the slopes of the hill.
