TO KNOW :
A noria (a word of Arabic origin) is a large paddlewheel installed on a river and driven by the current. It was used to raise water by means of a string of buckets, which then discharged it into a canal, thus irrigating the land. It was driven by a horse or mule. Norias were also used to lift water from wells.
