Association Clap Sommières
A group of enthusiasts for the seventh art decided to create an event to show films. Short and feature-length films to be screened at Le Venise, the Sommières cinema, an essential cultural structure in the Gard and the association's exclusive partner. The idea of a festival, a place for exchanges and encounters, was therefore at the heart of our reflections. The event would bring together volunteers, association members, guests, spectators and students.
It will take place from April 24 to 27, 2024 at the Sommières cinema. There will be school screenings from kindergarten to high school during the day (with films programmed especially for them, with filmmakers in attendance), and evening screenings for the general public.
From the outset, the association's aim has been to put image education at the heart of its objectives, in order to open the doors of the cinema to local schoolchildren.
We want to create or reinforce the desire of young cinema-goers to go to the cinema. Through the festival, our aim is to introduce them to the professional world of cinema, encourage them to discover works of the seventh art, and develop their critical faculties by encouraging the sharing of cultural practices.
From kindergarten to high school, we're committed to giving children and teenagers an insight into the world through the cinema. To achieve this goal, and in addition to the screenings planned for school groups, the festival team is extending the experience with :
- The creation of a Young Short Film Jury, where high-school students will analyze short films made exclusively in the Occitanie region, and then vote for their favorite with a professional speaker.
- The opportunity to take part in fun workshops such as the Mash-Up table to learn how to edit, or to learn about radio in partnership with Radio Sommières.
Full-length and short films, guests, meetings with filmmakers and their films, school screenings and workshops... That's what the first edition of the CLAP festival has in store for the Sommierois public, in partnership with key local structures and associations.
