Markets and fairs
For centuries the town of Sommières has attracted visitors to its traditional Saturday market. All year long merchants set up their colourful stands along the streets and on the town squares. It is, however, in the spring and summer that the local produce market and the flea market are particularly attractive. Every Wednesday evening in the summer the farmer’s market is set up in the town. You can find local products as well as arts and crafts for sale .
Recently, the town has successfully revived the old tradition of the Saint Michel’s Fair which takes place on september ).
One of the things we strongly recommend you do at the market of Sommières on Saturday morning is tasting some oysters (usually from the Etang de Thau) with a glass of fresh Rosé or white wine of the Sommières area at one of the shady pavement cafés (suspended until further notice – restaurants closed) . And why don’t you try other local products such as: goat’s cheese (pélardon), peaches or melons to accompany your tasty lunch?
A list is available at the tourist office with the other markets in the area.
